Nirupama Kulkarni

I am Professor (formerly Additional Director–Research) at CAFRAL, a research institution promoted by the Reserve Bank of India. My research examines how financial institutions, regulation, and market design shape credit allocation, financial stability, and economic opportunity.  My research and policy work focus on banking, digital finance, and housing markets in India.

I hold a Ph.D. in Finance and Real Estate from the University of California, Berkeley, an MBA from New York University, and a B.Tech. from IIT Bombay.
